Amanda regains her confidence

Amanda, 62, was unemployed for a year and struggled to find a new role after leaving her previous position in retail. Suffering from low confidence, combined with mental and physical health issues, she found it challenging to secure interviews for new opportunities.

In need of further support, Amanda joined the Restart Scheme in March 2024 and met her Employment Advisor, Anne Robertson. Together they discussed Amanda’s lack of interview success and her low confidence, identifying the type of additional help she would need.

Anne explained: “Amanda attended employability sessions to work on her CV, interview skills and job search skills. Myself and the Employer Engagement team held regular job searching sessions to support her with her applications. We also helped Amanda practise before every interview to ensure she was confident and well prepared.”

The team also referred Amanda to one of our Community Partnership Network members, The Digital College, who helped her obtain a Customer Service Level Two qualification – improving her skillset and confidence.

After five months of continued support, Amanda soon secured a Store Assistant role at Primark.

Anne said: “Amanda has been a fantastic participant to work with, she took every task given to her in her stride and took positive steps to rebuild her confidence with our support.”

Reflecting on the support she received, Amanda said: “I would like to thank Anne and the whole team for all their help and support during my time with Maximus. They went above and beyond to help me get back into work, boosting my confidence along the way. Without their help, I wouldn’t have my job.”
