Celebrating job success

Retail career beckons for Sophie thanks to the Restart Scheme

After a long period of time out of work, it can be difficult to imagine how you will find your way into employment.

But that’s exactly what’s happened for one Kirklees woman, thanks to a helping hand from the Restart Scheme.

Sophie Burgon is celebrating securing her first job in a decade, and her first paid role, thanks to the interventions and support from her dedicated Employment Advisor Lisa.

28-year-old Sophie was referred to the Restart Scheme in July.

Previously at college, Sophie had been on the hunt for a job for five years. Childcare and a previous kidney transplant played a part in Sophie’s barriers to employment – but Lisa provided Sophie with the tailored support she needed to achieve her job goal.

Lisa referred Sophie to workshops, helped Sophie to arrange childcare and guided her in how to explaithe situation surrounding her kidney transplant to prospective employers.

Following Lisa’s guidance, Sophie went on to tick all the right boxes for one employer and was successful in her application for a role as a Retail Assistant. Sophie started her new job in September.

Sophie said:I found the workshops helpful, and the advisor was also very helpful.”
