Dylan overcomes nerves to become a confident care assistant
Dylan, 20, from Rotherham, had been unemployed for nine months after he left his previous job as a carer in a care home. In need of further support, he joined the Restart Scheme in August 2024 where he was supported by our partners, The Growth Company.
He soon met his Employment Advisor, Loren Middleton, who explained: “Initially, Dylan was shy and hesitant to make eye contact, often accompanied by his partner for support.”

Despite his initial nerves, Loren recognised Dylan’s potential and referred him to one of our Community Partnership Network (CPN) members, National Careers Service. With their help, Dylan participated in sessions designed to build his interview skills, preparation, CV and overall employability.
Dylan also took part in an Introduction to Care course with and completed necessary documentation, including his DBS check. With newfound confidence, Dylan successfully secured a care assistant position, and started the role in October 2024.
Loren and the team helped Dylan build back his belief in himself. Reflecting on the change in him, she explained: “It has been brilliant to see how far Dylan has come on his Restart journey.”
Expressed his gratitude for the support he received, Dylan said: “The team were a wonderful help. I’m really loving my new job as I get to meet and connect with new people.”
