Participant secures first job with help from the Restart Scheme

For many young people, taking the first steps into the world of work can feel overwhelming and at just 19, Fraser, from Greenwich, was determined not to let his lack of work experience hold him back.

After nine months of looking to secure employment, he joined the Restart Scheme with a clear goal to prove to himself that he could find work within six weeks and begin building a future for himself.

With support from our partners, Greenwich Local Labour and Business (GLLaB), Fraser started working with his dedicated Employment Advisor. Despite his lack of experience, Fraser was eager to find a position that matched his strengths and interests and expressed a strong preference for a physical, hands-on role, identifying the warehouse sector as a possibility.

In the first instance, Fraser completed employability development sessions and created a new CV. He also attended weekly job clubs and attended interview coaching. During a fortnightly employer engagement pre-screen recruitment workshop, Fraser impressed with his professionalism and enthusiasm and was shortlisted as one of five participants suitable to attend a dedicated Lidl recruitment day.

After further preparation through mock interviews, Fraser attended the recruitment day and was delighted to be offered a Warehouse Operative role. Achieving his goal even faster than the six weeks he was aiming for, he reflected: “What really stood out for me was how hands on being part of the Restart Scheme was. I was always able to access support even if I didn’t have a scheduled appointment, which made a huge difference in my journey. Thank you everyone who supported me, I truly am grateful.”
