Positivity pays off

Billy-Ray’s positivity lands him new job

Billy-Ray Singh-Staplehurst’s hard work pays off after finding work through the Restart Scheme.

After losing his job during the Covid-19 pandemic, Billy-Ray, 27, was referred to the Restart Scheme in Merton in January 2022.

He had been unemployed for over a year and was struggling with job interviews when he was referred to our partners, Reed in Partnership.

He said: “The pandemic did make it harder for me to find suitable roles.”

With previous experience working in retail, warehouses, and pubs, he was looking for a similar role where he could utilise this skillset.

During his regular sessions with his Employment Advisor, Aida Smith, he was put forward for training sessions on interview skills and how to effectively job search.

Aida said: “From the beginning, he had a very nice approach to the Scheme. He was very positive, receptive and willing to do whatever it takes to get back into work.”

Thanks to his positive outlook, it wasn’t long before Billy-Ray secured himself a new retail role working for a local supermarket chain. In fact, the interviewer liked him so much that he gave him the job on the spot.

Billy-Ray said: “I was very happy when I found out I had been successful and I’m now enjoying my new role!”

Reflecting on the help he received, he commented: “I have found the Restart Scheme to be a very positive experience. Everyone has been very understanding and encouraging. The whole experience was very useful. I would gladly recommend the Restart Scheme to anyone else.”
