Pre-Employment Training success

June embarks on Civil Service career thanks to Restart Scheme

June Skinner, 60, from Mansfield, is celebrating a new job in the Civil Service after the Restart Scheme supported her through Pre-Employment Training (PET).

June had been out of work for nine years when she joined the Scheme in July 2021.

In Nottinghamshire, Maximus is working with its partners Futures to deliver the Restart Scheme.

June had previously mainly worked in customer service roles, but also had experience of care and warehousing.

The length of time June had been out of work played a part in her barriers to employment, and she needed help to brush up on her job searching and interview skills.

Craig helped June to update her CV, assisted with her job search and with interview prep in meetings and advised her to use the resources on the Employment Support Hub. Craig and the Restart Scheme team helped to keep June’s confidence up throughout her journey.

June was proactive and determined to get back into work – she wasn’t afraid to attend courses and was willing to travel outside of Mansfield on public transport to ensure she was flexible for roles.

The Futures Restart Scheme team supported her by looking at Pre-Employment Training (PET), and June was keen to be involved.

She was referred to a 6-week PET which was being delivered by Futures tutor Kevin for Case Manager roles within the Civil Service. June was well supported throughout the course by Craig, who kept in touch regularly and was on hand to help if June required any further help from the Scheme.

Though the recruitment process was challenging, Craig supported June every step of the way. June successfully completed the PET and was offered a role as a General Case Manager. She started her new job in March.

June said: “Thank you to Futures for the all the hard work they put in to help me on the journey via the Restart Scheme.”
