Wendy finds flexible work

Wendy, 59, from Erith, had been unemployed for several years while caring for her granddaughter, and as a result, struggled with understanding basic technology, completing job applications, and managing childcare responsibilities.

Before joining the Restart Scheme in February 2024, Wendy had previously worked as a retail assistant and as a cleaner and was hoping to put her transferable skills to use in her new role.

With support from our partners Bexley Be, and her Employment Advisor, Chloe Bacon, Wendy gained the skills she needed to navigate the job market. She attended employability development sessions and wellbeing confidence workshops, updated her CV and received support with job applications.

This newfound knowledge helped boost her motivation and confidence, allowing her to find a job that matched her personal needs.

After a successful interview with a local cleaning company, Wendy started working as a cleaner in September 2024, working 10 hours a week so Wendy can earn an income while working flexibly around her childcare commitments.

Reflecting on her experience, Wendy shared: “I couldn’t have found my job without the help I received through the Restart Scheme. It has been excellent. Thank you.”
